Heather Brown, Research Associate

I am a Research Associate in the Walsh Lab working in collaboration with Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks to assess various adaptive management methods on bighorn sheep and mountain goat populations across Montana.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Ecology and Management from Montana State University and have spent many years since then in the field collecting data on a variety of species. This includes crows in the Mariana Islands, parakeets in New Zealand, island foxes and island spotted skunks in California, grizzly bears in Wyoming and Alaska, Weddel seals in Antarctica, and bighorn sheep in Oregon. After spending some time doing field work, I earned a Graduate Certificate of Research from James Cook University in Australia. Here, I studied how individual behavioral syndromes relate to learning outcomes in fawn-footed mosaic-tailed rats.
Overall, my research interests include wildlife habitat use and landscape behavior, disease, inter- and intra-specific competition, and predator-prey interactions. I am also currently working towards my helicopter pilots license and one day hope to be able to combine my passion for flying with my passion for wildlife research.
