2025 Technology Update

 

UM IT would like to share the following information and resources with the campus community:

Zoom

  • UM will maintain its Zoom subscription through the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • UM IT will continue to provide training on the use of Microsoft Teams as the preferred video-telephony platform for UM, particularly as campus continues its transition of phone services to Microsoft Teams (see “Teams Phones” section, below). Transitioning to Teams remains a priority, as it offers Microsoft-integrated features that align with UM’s long-term technology goals.
  • No action is needed for current Zoom users to continue using Zoom.
  • Zoom webinar licenses are no longer readily available. If your department would like assistance with hosting an online event, please or visit the IT Help Desk in the Mansfield Library.

Box

  • UM is transitioning from Box to SharePoint/OneDrive for document and data storage.
  • Users must transfer their files and data from Box to SharePoint/OneDrive by May 31, 2025. (Box will go into to read-only mode after May 2025, and will no longer be available after August 2025.)
  • If you or your unit have files in Box, please plan to move the files and data you wish to keep to SharePoint/OneDrive before May 2025:
    • Assess current content in Box and clean up any unnecessary files or folders. Reference the for help with this.
    • Examine shared folders in Box and note who the primary owner of the folder is. If this is someone who is no longer at the university, please contact UM IT.
    • If you need assistance organizing your departmental data in preparation for the migration, please fill out a .
  • The Office of Organizational Learning and Development (OOLD) will host online sessions on this topic and
  • IT is offering regular Office Hours to assist individuals and departments with this change.
    • Tuesdays, 12-1 p.m., in-person on third floor of the Mansfield Library
    • Thursdays, 3-4 p.m., online via Teams. Registration information for online office hours is posted weekly on Griz Hub and on Around the Oval.

Teams Phones

  • IT is working with each area of campus to transition from landlines to Microsoft Teams phones.
  • For individual/group assistance, or to schedule a transition date, please request a consultation through the .

Submittable

  • IT will continue to facilitate access to Submittable; however, going forward, departments that opt to use the platform will assume responsibility for covering its cost.
  • If you use Submittable and are not already in touch with IT about this change, please contact Alex Karklins, IT Applications Administrator.
